It may still work without God

I used to, when I was still a Christian, like Reinhold Niebuhr's so-called Serenity Prayer very much, particularly the following lines:

God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

When I look at these lines again now, I can't help wondering why I thought I needed God in order to have the attitudes advocated in these lines. Why can't I develop the serenity, courage, and wisdom on my own? It may still work without God.

  1. It is interesting to think that on one hand, we are so weak that require so much assistance from GOD... on the other hand, we can use genetically modificationS to make tomato bigger, tastier adn more nutrious and be like GOD...

  2. I have another thought when I showered just now.

    If God wants us to be like him (that's why he made Adam out of his image), then maybe he wants us to be like GOD too... If that is the case, he probably would support cloning research... :)

  3. RandomCoil,

    God's wanting us to be like him doesn't mean God's wanting us to be like him in all respects!

  4. Hahahaha... I am just trying to think of a reason that God's people can accept when it comes to doing God-like research.
